Yesterday, was Thailand's king Bhumibol Adulyadej's 84th birthday, and the whole country celebrated. The king's birthday is a national holiday here; can't say I minded having the day off. Every city and town had its own parade and festival—the big one, of course, being in Bangkok. Unfortunately, I slept through the one in Mae Hong Son.
However, I didn't miss the celebratory barbecue at the Pa-O National Development Organization (PNDO) in Toong Kong Moo village near where I'm staying. It was indeed a feast, even for us vegetarians, although the spoils definitely went to the meat-eaters.
